Matt Damon Biography:

Actor and Oscar-winning screenwriter (with fellow actor Ben Affleck for Good Will Hunting in 1997), Matt Damon exudes a boyish charm that has vaulted him to the front rank of bankable stars in Hollywood.

Born October 8, 1970, and raised in Newton and Cambridge, Mass. (in a commune-like house with his mother and older brother), Damon befriended neighbor Affleck in 1981. After making his feature debut (with one line) in 1988's Mystic Pizza, Damon acted with the prestigious American Repertory Theatre in Cambridge and with various Harvard theatre groups.

By the early 1990s, Damon began to concentrate on his film career, which soon was soaring. Key films include The Rainmaker (his first leading role, in 1997); Saving Private Ryan (1998), in which he played the titular soldier; Dogma (1999); The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999); All the Pretty Horses (2000); and Ocean's 11 (2001).
